Two button coats are a very classic style, and will always be fashionable as they are considered very conservative, and appropriate for almost any occasion. Some in the younger crowd may consider them old fashioned or very stodgy. The characteristics of this coat are as such: long gradual lapels that button about two to three inches below the sternum. The taper of a coat like this tends to be a little fuller, and the lapels sit very nicely on a gentleman with a very broad chest. It also creates the midline slightly lower then a three button coat, giving a slightly more subdued silhouette. Only the top button on a coat like this should ever be buttoned, the bottom of the two buttons being considered a balance button, and is what creates the “waist” of the coat.
