Worsted wool is wool that has been combed before weaving and gabardine is wool that has been tightly twisted. These two wools are the most prominent and make a very fine suiting fabric.
They come in a variety of weights, from very fine Super 180’s down to the tough, warm flanneled wools. Super 140’s to 180’s are a very fine, hard finished fabric that is incredibly light and good for warmer climes (please note that this range has the highest wrinkling factor); Super 100’s through 120’s and gaberdines are a good all-year-round fabric. The flannels are warm, soft, and very good for the colder months.
These fabrics tend to have the widest color and pattern range and are often the primary stock of any clothier.
