Cloth caps such as the driving cap, eight panel, newsboy, big apple, and golf cap refer to the considerable genre of cloth caps available. These caps are much different from a hat, which usually refers to the brimmed or blocked caps (such as a fedora or homburg). Caps tend to have less structure. Historically, cloth caps were reserved for the working class. In this day and age they are much more common than the brimmed or blocked hats, can be worn formally or casually, and are considered a sign of class.
