The bowler or derby is a classic English hat. It was worn in past days by bankers and stockbrokers and is still worn today by off duty Queen’s Guardsmen as a sign of their position. It has gathered some notoriety amongst the counterculture underground from the characters in the Stanley Kubrick film “A Clockwork Orange.” It is a hard blocked hat that is shaped very much like a dome with a short brim slightly curled along the edges. This hat was usually made out of fur or wool.
